Book talk with Heidi Beierle, slow travel expert

  • Wild Blossom Meadery 9030 South Hermitage Avenue Chicago, IL, 60620 United States (map)

Heidi works at the intersection of transportation, tourism, and recreation to create and communicate opportunities for everyone to access the outdoors, regardless of any barriers or limitations they may experience.

She is uniquely qualified to speak about slow travel having pedaled solo across the U.S. studying bicycle tourism, rural economic development, and historic roads.

A practitioner of slow travel philosophy, Heidi used the trail near her home to get unstuck from pandemic-induced negativity and depression. She is underway with a nationwide book tour that demonstrates the opportunity and benefits of slow travel.

Set in summer 2010 when she pedaled solo from Eugene, OR, to Washington, DC, Heidi Across America - One Woman's Journey on a Bicycle Through the Heartland is a love letter to America and a story about being transformed by the kindness of strangers and learning to love the tender heart within. Her book talk is oriented around slow travel, a way of exploring the world that is good for both people and the planet.

Out Our Front Door is super lucky to have Heidi in town for this very special opportunity to hear about her message. Heidi will also have signed books available for purchase at this event. If the weather cooperates, we will gather in the backyard garden of Wild Blossom Meadery which is directly off the Major Taylor Bike trail. Bicycle parking is plentiful on the trail side of the venue. In the event of inclement weather, we have a smaller space indoors we are able to use.

Wild Blossom has a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as cauliflower crust pizza (Gluten-Free), chicken wings, and other snacks. Children are welcome with their respective parent/guardian.
